Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, met with Rashid Muradov, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, in Herat today (Sunday, February 1) and discussed the expansion of economic cooperation and joint regional projects.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs announced in a press release that the two sides exchanged views in this meeting on TAPI and TAP projects, railway, electricity, trade development, banking cooperation, creating job opportunities and joint management of economic projects in various sectors.
According to Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the launch of the TAPI project has paved the way for expanding relations between Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and other countries in the region. He also announced the interest of a Saudi Arabian company to invest in the project.
The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs explained that the Saudi Arabian company is interested in investing in the gas purchase section of the TAPI project, increasing the capacity of the large Turkmenistan gas block, expanding the gas pipeline from Guzra district of Herat to Spin Boldak district of Kandahar, extending the pipeline to the Indian border, and building a large and modern gas center in Pakistan’s Gwadar port.
Mullah Baradar Akhund further called on Turkmenistan to clarify its final position on the construction of the Turgandi-Herat railway project, adding that Kazakhstan has also shown serious interest in implementing this project. He also announced Afghanistan’s full readiness to finalize the TAPI project roadmap.
He emphasized that Afghanistan is ready to cooperate comprehensively in the field of electricity transmission to the districts of Bala Murghab, Kham Ab and Qarqin, as well as the implementation of other regional connectivity projects. The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs also emphasized the provision of work opportunities for Afghan citizens in joint projects between the two countries.
On the other hand, Rashid Muradov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, thanked the Islamic Emirate for providing suitable conditions for the implementation of the TAPI project and said that by the end of this year, the work of this project will reach the center of Herat province.
He welcomed the interest of foreign companies in investing in the TAPI project and emphasized the need for close cooperation between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan in this regard. Muradov also announced his country’s readiness to invest in the Turgandi-Herat railway project, adding that practical work on this project has begun in Turgandi.
According to him, Turkmenistan is ready to transmit electricity to Afghanistan via five routes and increase its transmission capacity.
The meeting was attended by Mullah Hedayatullah Badri, Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Mullah Mohammad Yunus Akhundzadeh, Minister of Water and Energy, Minister of Transport and Railways of Turkmenistan, Minister of State and Head of the State Company Turkmengaz, and a number of officials from both countries.
