Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi today (Thursday, February 5) reacted to the anti-Iranian comments of German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz.
He stated: Germany was once the engine of Europe’s progress; but today it has become the engine of Europe’s regression.
The head of the Iranian diplomatic service noted: Last September in New York, at the insistence of Mr. Mertz, three European countries abandoned their role in the nuclear negotiations and instead took the path of restoring UN sanctions against Iran. Now the same person is begging to return to the same negotiations.
Araghchi wrote on the X channel: We Iranians have unfortunately witnessed other manifestations of Mr. Mertz’s political immaturity and inappropriate behavior many times.
He added: In June 2025, when Israel killed more than a thousand Iranians, his reaction was full of joy. In addition, Mr. Mertz has repeatedly spoken publicly and fantasized about the imminent collapse of Iran, and that too within a few weeks!
Stating that the German nation is a great nation that has provided valuable services to humanity with its hard work and innovation, Araghchi said: Iran has always wanted strong and constructive relations with Germany. Therefore, the presence of someone like Mr. Mertz as Germany’s representative on the world stage is truly regrettable.
He said: “We hope that a more wise, responsible and honorable political leadership will return to Germany once again.”
According to Fars, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz called for more pressure on Iran to end its nuclear program as soon as possible on the X channel. He claimed that developments in Iran are preventing peace in the Middle East and once again sought to intervene in Iran’s internal affairs.
