Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Floods in Kandahar and Helmand provinces have destroyed nearly 1,000 homes. As a result of this incident, at least two people have died and thousands of hectares of agricultural land have been destroyed. Thousands of hectares of agricultural land and gardens have also been destroyed, 36 livestock have been lost, 9 canals have been destroyed, and 44 solar panels have been broken.
According to Tolo News, Najibullah Rahmani, spokesman for the Disaster Preparedness Department in Kandahar, said: “As a result of heavy rainfall and floods last night, about 585 families have been affected in the center and districts.”
Mohammad Hanif Haqmal, spokesman for the Kandahar Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, also said: “The most damage occurred in six districts of Zhari district, and about 33,000 acres of agricultural land have been destroyed there.”
Damage spreads to Zabul and Uruzgan / Flood victims appeal for help
According to this report, these floods have also caused financial losses to the people of Zabul and Uruzgan provinces. Flood victims are asking the authorities to help them.
Abdul Manan, one of the victims, said: “All my property was washed away and I only saved a few things. I ask the government to help us.”
“There is a lot of water in this area and it has entered our houses with the rains,” said Mohammad, another victim. “The houses are old and made of mud, and the economic situation of the people is poor.”
Officials said emergency aid had begun for flood victims and hundreds of people had been rescued from flooded areas in Kandahar and Helmand.
