Muttaqi’s Consultation with Chinese Ambassador in Kabul / Emphasis on Accelerating Urumqi Talks and Strengthening Regional Trust
In the meeting between the Foreign Minister and the Chinese Ambassador in Kabul, the two sides focused on regional developments and bilateral relations, emphasizing the continuation and acceleration of the Urumqi talks, and assessed the role of these talks in strengthening trust-building and reducing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan as important.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the meeting of Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi with Zhao Xing, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Kabul, regarding bilateral cooperation, regional developments, and the ongoing negotiations in the city of Urumqi.

According to the Ministry, in this meeting, the two sides focused on expanding bilateral relations between Afghanistan and China, as well as reviewing the current situation in the region.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, positively assessing the level of cooperation between the two countries, appreciated China's role in hosting and facilitating the Urumqi talks and also expressed gratitude for the mediation efforts of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

He emphasized that good talks have been held so far and expressed hope that some minor interpretations will not hinder the progress of these talks.

The ministry's statement said that the Chinese ambassador in Kabul, while providing the latest information on the process of the talks in Urumqi, stated that his country is trying to strengthen the atmosphere of trust between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

He added that this process is being carried out with an impartial approach and within the framework of regional cooperation.

The Chinese ambassador also expressed hope that with a better understanding of the geopolitical situation in the region, the process of building trust and reducing tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan will continue.

The statement continued by adding that Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi emphasized that the position of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan towards tensions is defensive and considers defending national sovereignty as its inalienable right.

This meeting took place while some media outlets reported that the country had stopped its military attacks on Pakistan.
