China and Russia vetoed a resolution against Iran over the Strait of Hormuz
Russia and China used their veto power against a draft resolution by Bahrain in the UN Security Council on the opening of the Strait of Hormuz by force, and the resolution was not approved.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: News sources reported on Tuesday evening that a special session of the UN Security Council on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and voting had begun.
According to the final text of the resolution, which was made available to news agencies, the controversial phrase "all necessary means" (permission to use force) was removed due to opposition from Beijing and Moscow, and only emphasizes defense coordination for escorting commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Foreign Minister of the Bahraini government claimed at the UN Security Council meeting that the Arab countries bordering the Persian Gulf are the world's main exporters and suppliers of energy, and for this reason the Strait of Hormuz is a shared international responsibility. And if the Security Council allows the Strait of Hormuz to remain closed, this issue will later be repeated with other straits.
Russia and China vetoed Bahrain's proposed resolution in the UN Security Council regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
The vote on the Bahraini-proposed resolution regarding the Strait of Hormuz was 11 in favor, with two abstentions from Colombia and Pakistan, and one negative vote from Russia and China.
