Mearsheimer: Iran holds almost all the winning cards; Strait of Hormuz is a lever of pressure on the global economy

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): John Mearsheimer, a professor at the University of Chicago and a prominent theorist of international relations, said in recent statements that the Islamic Republic of Iran has a very powerful position in regional equations.

He emphasized: "Iran holds almost all the winning cards and is in a very powerful position."

Referring to the importance of the Strait of Hormuz, the professor of international relations added: If this strategic passage is closed, there is a possibility of disruption of the global economy and, according to him, Iran's leverage in this area is "very large."

Mearsheimer also claimed that Iran has the ability to put serious pressure on the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

He continued, referring to Trump, saying: The former US president is not capable of endlessly escalating tensions and that at any stage, Iran can have the upper hand.

He concluded by claiming: “There is no attractive exit option for Trump and the only possible path is to accept defeat.”
