Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Mark Carney stated in a speech that Canada will reduce its long-standing dependence on the United States in the field of military spending and supplies, while focusing on strengthening domestic industry and expanding global partnerships.
Stating that "the days when our military sent 70 cents of every dollar to the United States are over," he described this situation as unsustainable and said that his country is seeking greater independence in defense and financial decisions.
The Canadian Prime Minister also referred to Donald Trump's tariff policies as one of the immediate threats to the Canadian economy, but warned that the bigger and more enduring challenge is maintaining internal cohesion and a shared definition of national interests within the country.
