UN aid coordination mechanism for Afghan refugees handed over from Netherlands to Switzerland
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says the head of its key mechanism for coordinating aid to Afghan refugees has been handed over to Switzerland from the Netherlands.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The decision was taken at a meeting with senior UN officials, the UN said in a statement.

The Afghan Refugee Solutions Strategy Support Mechanism focused on strengthening regional coordination and responding to changing migration patterns at a meeting with senior officials and UN representatives, the agency said.

According to the statement, the main focus of the talks was the introduction of a new approach called the "path-based approach"; A framework designed to manage the movement of refugees on migration routes in Southwest Asia.

The UN added that the approach aims to address the challenges faced by displaced people at various stages of their journey, from departure to transit and the possibility of return.

Afghanistan has the second largest number of refugees in Europe after Syria.
