Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - The international service, citing IRNA, Pouria Kolivand, the deputy permanent representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran in AIMO, rejected the proposal presented by the UAE and stated that this plan ignored the main roots of the current situation in the region.
He clarified that the current situation, especially in the Strait of Hormuz, was a direct result of the illegal military actions of the United States and the Israeli regime, which were carried out in clear violation of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, especially the principle of prohibition of the use of force.
Referring to the principles of international law, Koulivand added: the governments that have participated in aggressive actions or provided the ground for them, are facing international responsibility.
This Iranian official also emphasized that the UAE's claims about creating insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and attributing it to Iran have serious legal and technical problems. He pointed out that this important international waterway, despite the sensitive conditions of the region, has always been open and the traffic of ships in it has not been stopped.
According to him, ships that are not involved in the conflict have continued their safe passage with the coordination of Iranian authorities and compliance with safety measures. He added that Tehran has taken responsible measures to maintain the safety of navigation by issuing maritime notices and determining safe routes.
Koulivand also reminded that Iran is not a member of the 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea, and therefore some of the legal regimes foreseen in it do not create binding obligations for the country.
Further, Mehdi Mohajer, a member of the Iranian delegation in AIMO, responded to the claims of the UAE delegation and stated that according to UN General Assembly Resolution 3314, the use of a country's territory to carry out acts of aggression will result in international responsibility.
He emphasized that the actions taken against Iran are offensive in nature and cannot be described as defensive, and these actions have clear legal consequences in the framework of international law.
In the end, the representatives of Iran emphasized that their country reserves all its rights to take appropriate measures within the framework of international law and asked the members of IMO to examine the situation in the region with an approach based on facts and legal principles.
In recent weeks, the issue of the security of the Strait of Hormuz has become one of the main axes of international maritime meetings due to the escalation of regional tensions. Some countries have demanded an increase in international monitoring of this waterway, while Iran emphasizes its role in ensuring the security of this route. The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important energy passages in the world, through which a significant part of the world's oil transport passes.
According to those in the know, Iran's decisive reaction in this meeting shows an attempt to prevent the formation of a legal consensus against this country in international forums. Surveys show that the Strait of Hormuz, as a strategic point, has always been at the center of geopolitical competitions, and any legal narrative can have far-reaching consequences. Also, according to the observers, emphasizing the role of the aggressor countries in creating the crisis is part of Tehran's strategy to change the direction of international pressure.
