Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to Chinese state media, Xi Jinping called for closer and stronger strategic coordination between China and Russia in a meeting with Sergey Lavrov.
Pointing out that the stability and certainty of relations between China and Russia is valuable especially in the changing and turbulent international conditions, he asked the two countries to assume their responsibilities as major countries and permanent members of the UN Security Council.
The Chinese President stated that in the midst of the current turbulent and evolving international landscape, both sides should enhance strategic communication, strengthen diplomatic coordination and promote China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership to reach a higher level, achieve greater stability and progress.
Without directly mentioning the name of the US and its Western allies, Xi said that "in the face of profound changes that have not been seen in the last century, China and Russia must pursue closer and stronger strategic coordination to resolutely protect their legitimate interests and maintain the solidarity of the southern countries."
Addressing Lavrov, he stated: "Both sides must maintain their strategic determination and strengthen mutual trust, support each other and pursue common development."
"(China and Russia) should make full use of their geographical proximity and complementary advantages to deepen comprehensive cooperation and enhance their respective development resilience," the Chinese president added. Efforts should also be made to strengthen multilateral coordination, resolutely protect multilateralism and its practices, and jointly restore the authority and vitality of the United Nations.
