Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Herat: In this meeting, the Governor of Herat emphasized increasing the level of trade exchanges via the Islam Qala border port and called for serious consideration of the challenges and transportation problems on the Dogharoon and Islam Qala border routes.
In contrast, the Deputy Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran also emphasized the expansion of further cooperation and coordination in order to facilitate the process of trade transfers and announced the readiness to take necessary measures to resolve existing problems in the trade and transit sector between the two countries.
Economic and trade relations between Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran have been expanding in recent years, especially via Herat Province.
The Islam Qala-Dogharun border port, as one of the most important trade crossings between the two countries, plays a key role in the transfer of goods, regional transit, and meeting the needs of the Afghan market.
However, problems such as congestion of cargo trucks, slow loading and unloading processes, and some administrative challenges on this route have always been raised by traders.
Joint efforts by the authorities of the two countries to facilitate trade, increase customs capacity, and improve transit infrastructure are part of ongoing programs to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation.
