Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Afghanistan's carpet union and 4,000 meters of Afghan rugs worth $18 million were exported to 37 countries last year, officials said.
Abdullah Rahman Ghol, the head of the union, told the media that the largest exports of Afghan carpets and rugs were to the United States, Turkey and a number of European countries.
According to him, carpet processing is currently being done inside the country and with the expansion of this process, employment will be provided for about 50,000 people in the country. He stressed that the development of handicrafts, especially carpet weaving, can play an important role in strengthening household economies and increasing Afghanistan's non-oil exports.
Afghanistan's carpet industry is one of the most important sectors of the country's handicrafts, which has enjoyed a significant position in the world markets for many years and is one of the most important sources of export revenue for the country.
It is worth mentioning that the increase in Afghanistan's carpet and rug exports, along with the growth of domestic processing, shows that this traditional industry still has a high potential to create jobs and strengthen the country's economy, a capacity that can play a more prominent role in global markets if more support is provided.
