The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories described the Israeli army as "the most corrupt and degenerate army on earth," stating that its actions have crossed all red lines and violated international law.
Albanese's remarks were released in response to a video documenting the brutal abuse of a Palestinian child by Israeli soldiers.
“I have seen enough to say with absolute certainty: the Israeli army is the most corrupt army,” he wrote on his official account.
The UN Special Rapporteur has been subjected to a massive campaign of incitement and direct death threats since issuing an official report accusing Israel of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip.
In a recent interview with the British newspaper The Guardian, Albanese revealed that his life is now in danger and that he lives in constant danger.
He described his situation since the publication of the report as akin to “riding a roller coaster” due to the pressure and threats he has faced for his courageous stand in exposing the crimes of the occupiers.
The Israeli army, with the support of the United States and Europe, has been committing genocide, besieging and starving the civilian population of the Gaza Strip for more than two years since October 7, 2023.
This has resulted in the martyrdom of 72,549 Palestinian civilians, most of whom are children and women, and the injury of another 172,274 to date.
