Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The governments of South Korea and Japan announced on Sunday that North Korea had fired several ballistic missiles.
Hours later, North Korea's official news agency released images confirming the country's missile test and announced the launch of the Hwasong Fu-11 missile, writing that the country's leader Kim Jong-un and his daughter watched the missile hit the target.
The report added that the test was conducted to test the power of the rain warhead.
After the test, Kim Jong-un "expressed his complete satisfaction with it."
Although some Western countries, including the United States and its East Asian allies, believe that such missile tests by North Korea violate United Nations Security Council resolutions against the North's missile program, Pyongyang rejects the UN sanctions and considers them a violation of its sovereign right to self-defense.
The launches come as China and the United States prepare for a summit in mid-May, where the presidents of the two countries are expected to discuss the North Korean issue.
