Starmer: Economic consequences of war against Iran will not be temporary

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to Reuters, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in his speech to members of the country's trade unions: "Tomorrow I will chair an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss the effects (of the war against Iran), and people from the Bank of England will also participate in it."

 

Addressing British workers and the middle classes of the country, who are now suffering from inflation caused by the war against Iran, he said that he will stand by them.

 

The British Prime Minister referred to the increase in the price of fuel and other basic goods and added: "I have to talk to you honestly about Iran, because the reality is that its economic consequences may remain with us for some time."

 

Earlier, Starmer had said in response to US calls to participate in a war against Iran: "I will never allow Britain to be dragged into a war that is not in our interest."

 

The British government's emergency response committee, chaired by Starmer and attended by representatives of the Bank of England, will examine the consequences of a war against Iran on the country's economy on Tuesday.

 

The US and Israeli aggression on Iranian territory has led to restrictions on passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Disruptions in the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz have caused shortages of energy and many goods, including chemical fertilizers, in the world.
