Widening Dispute in the Arab Bloc; Possibility of the UAE’s Withdrawal from the Arab League Strengthened
While the UAE has recently withdrawn from OPEC, the media is now reporting the country’s intention to sever its ties with the Arab League.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The “Africa Intelligence” newspaper wrote that the UAE is planning to sever its ties with the Arab League, and this issue is probably the reason for the concerns of the Secretary-General of the Union, Nabil Al-Fahmi, in recent days.

According to the newspaper, since the UAE’s Minister of Energy, Suhail Mohammed Faraj Al-Mazroui, announced the country’s withdrawal from OPEC, the Arab League has been concerned about this happening within the organization. Nabil Al-Fahmi, a veteran Egyptian diplomat who was appointed as the Secretary-General of the Union in March, is concerned that such a move by the UAE would further weaken the Arab League, which has already been criticized for its inefficiency.

Al-Fahmy recently held consultations with Anwar Gargash, an adviser to the UAE president who is currently the diplomatic advisor to UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with the aim of convincing him to reconsider this matter, and in this regard, he also had a conversation with UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

According to the newspaper "Africa Intelligence", the Secretary-General of the Arab League is concerned that the tensions between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi, which led to the UAE's decision to withdraw from OPEC, will pave the way for the formation of a secondary Arab bloc centered on the UAE.

In this regard, "Hossam Zaki", Al-Fahmy's deputy and former advisor to "Ahmed Abu al-Gheit" on West Asian affairs, was assigned to talk to the UAE ambassador in Cairo and the UAE representative to the union and dissuade him from this decision.

According to the newspaper, relations between Abu Dhabi and Cairo have recently weakened, and the reason for this is largely due to the conflicts in Sudan, as the UAE supports "Mohammed Hamdan Daqlo", known as "Hamidati", the commander of the Sudanese Rapid Reaction Forces, while Egypt supports "Abdul Fattah al-Burhan", the head of the Sudanese Presidential Council.
