Trump awaits Iran
While the US President has spoken of waiting for Iran's response to Washington's proposal, while the White House continues to be confused about Tehran, he has once again used the language of threats and pressure against the Islamic Republic and announced the possibility of reviving the failed US plan in the Strait of Hormuz called "Freedom Plus"; a plan that had previously failed to gain the trust of shipping companies.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): US President Donald Trump announced this morning (Saturday, May 9) that his government will probably receive Iran's response to Washington's proposal to end the conflict late tonight.

Trump, who was talking to reporters on the way to board the Marine One helicopter in the White House compound, said in response to a CNN reporter's question about receiving a response from Iran: "We will probably receive a letter tonight."

Asked whether Tehran was deliberately slowing down the talks, the US president declined to comment, saying: “I don’t know. We’ll find out soon.”

The comments came hours after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington was expecting Iran to respond on Friday on a plan to end the war.

Donald Trump has a completely dual approach towards Iran, struggling to reach an agreement with Iran on the one hand and using threatening language against Iran on the other.

This morning, he told reporters that if a deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is not reached, the United States will take a “different path.”

He then added that if this agreement is not reached, the US will return to its program in the Strait of Hormuz, known as “Project Freedom,” which was suspended just 36 hours after it began.

Trump went on to say that of course the new program will be “Freedom Plus.” He explained that he meant doing the same things as Project Freedom “plus other things.”

The United States had launched Operation Project Freedom to protect ships from certain countries passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

However, many shipping companies said the operation had caused confusion and that ships were still not confident enough to pass through the Strait of Hormuz despite US promises of protection.
