US sanctions 11 companies and 3 individuals over alleged ties to Iran
The US State Department has announced that it has placed 11 companies and 3 individuals on its sanctions list under the pretext of ties to Iran. The ministry claimed that some entities based in China were targeted by these sanctions because they provided satellite images for Iranian attacks on American forces.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Marco Rubio issued a statement announcing the sanctions on 11 companies and three individuals based in Iran, China, Belarus and the UAE.

The statement by the US Secretary of State was released hours after the Treasury Department said that it had added the names of 3 individuals and 9 companies to the Iran sanctions list.

According to the US Treasury Department, the sanctioned individuals are citizens of Iran, China and Belarus, and the sanctioned companies are also based in Belarus and China. The ministry claimed that these individuals and companies have helped Iran’s weapons sector.

“Today, the Trump administration is imposing sanctions on 11 entities and three individuals based in Iran, China, Belarus, and the United Arab Emirates that are involved in Iran’s efforts to acquire or use weapons and related materials,” Rubio said in a statement.

Rubio claims that the sanctions include “several entities based in China that provide satellite imagery for Iran’s military attacks on U.S. forces in the Middle East.”

“In addition, we are imposing sanctions on entities and individuals that facilitate the Iranian military’s efforts to procure weapons, as well as raw materials for Iran’s ballistic missile and drone programs,” the secretary of state continued.

He took a stand against China’s relations with Iran ahead of Donald Trump’s official visit to Beijing to meet with his Chinese counterpart.

“Today’s action holds China-based entities accountable for their support for Iran,” Rubio said. The United States will take all necessary measures to target third-country entities and individuals that contribute to Iran’s military and defense capabilities.”

The US sanctions on Chinese companies come as the White House says Trump will visit China on May 14 and 15.

CNN reported on the sanctions: “A few days before a crucial summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing, the United States has imposed new sanctions on a number of Chinese companies for their ties to Iran.”
