Sexual assault case against Elon Musk and X network launched in France
The French judiciary has filed a case against Elon Musk and the X social network for publishing criminal content.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to the Associated Press, prosecutors in France are seeking to file criminal charges against Elon Musk and the X social platform (formerly Twitter); charges related to the publication of child sexual abuse images, fake content and disinformation, as well as “participation in the denial of crimes against humanity” through the platform’s artificial intelligence called Grac.

The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that it has opened a formal investigation against X.

The investigation includes charges such as participation in the storage and distribution of child sexual abuse images, illegal collection of personal data, publication of images or content without consent of individuals, as well as denial of crimes against humanity.

X and its parent company, SpaceX, have not yet responded to media requests for comment.

The filing comes less than three weeks after Elon Musk and former X CEO Linda Iaccarino were summoned for a “voluntary interview” about the allegations. They did not appear at the hearing, but French authorities said the matter would not interfere with the investigation.

Musk was summoned after a February inspection of X’s offices in France. The proceedings are part of a case opened in January 2025 by the cybercrime unit of the Paris prosecutor’s office.

Musk and Iaccarino were summoned as X’s executives at the time of the incidents under investigation. Iaccarino was the company’s CEO from May 2023 to July 2025.

French authorities launched their investigation after a report by a member of parliament alleged that biased algorithms at X may have disrupted the functioning of an automated data processing system. The case was expanded after the Grac system published content that allegedly included Holocaust denial (a crime in France) and the publication of sexual deepfakes.

The case also includes “participation in the denial of crimes against humanity,” the publication of sexual deepfakes without consent, manipulation of an automated data processing system as part of an organized group, and other charges.

Grac’s AI, developed by XAI and available through the X network, has come under international scrutiny this year after it produced a large number of sexual deepfakes without users’ consent.

In March, the Paris prosecutor’s office also notified the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission, saying it was possible that the controversy surrounding the sexual deepfakes produced by Grac was deliberately designed to increase the value of X and XAI, which could amount to a crime.
