Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan today (Tuesday, May 12) rejected a report by the American network CBS News that an Iranian military aircraft was stationed at a Pakistani airport, calling the claims "misleading and controversial" and describing them as "aimed at undermining ongoing efforts for regional peace and stability."
The ministry said the Iranian and US aircraft arrived during the ceasefire and Islamabad’s initial talks to transport “diplomatic personnel, security teams and administrative staff.” According to Islamabad, “the Iranian aircraft currently in Pakistan arrived during the ceasefire and has no connection to any military emergency or maintenance arrangements. Any claims to the contrary are speculative, misleading and completely untrue.”
CBS News last night reported, citing US officials, that Pakistan had allowed Iran to park military aircraft, including an RC-130, at the Nur Khan air base after the ceasefire was declared in April.
A Pakistani official had earlier denied the report, saying that such aircraft “cannot be hidden from public view.”
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry also said in a statement today that although formal talks (between Iran and the US) have not yet resumed, high-level diplomatic contacts are continuing.
