The head of the Prime Minister's Office, in a meeting with the head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for Afghanistan, has emphasized respecting the rights of Afghan refugees and ending forced and political encounters with them.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Office of the Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate has announced that Dr. Mullah Abdul Wasi, the head of the Prime Minister's Office, in a meeting with Arafat Jamal, the head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees for Afghanistan, has emphasized respecting the rights of Afghan refugees and ending forced and political encounters with them.

In this meeting, which was held at the Presidential Palace, the two sides discussed the situation of Afghan refugees, forced returns from neighboring countries, the problems of returnees, and joint cooperation to address their situation.

Referring to the increase in the forced expulsion of Afghan refugees in 2025, Arafat Jamal said that Afghanistan had the largest number of forced returnees in the world. At the same time, he appreciated the way the Islamic Emirate manages and welcomes the returnees, adding that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in coordination with the responsible institutions, provides basic services and humanitarian assistance to the refugees.

He also warned that economic difficulties, a decrease in global aid, repeated droughts, and limited absorption capacity have made the situation of the returnees more difficult. According to him, the upcoming visit of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to Kabul will be carried out with the aim of conducting a field survey of the situation of the refugees and consulting on ensuring the "dignified" return of Afghans.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mullah Abdul Wasi considered migration a global crisis and called on host countries to respect the rights of Afghan refugees in accordance with international principles and laws. He emphasized that refugees should not be forced to return through pressure, political confrontation, and retaliatory measures.

The head of the Prime Minister's Office also called on international institutions to take a serious and practical stance against countries that violate the rights of refugees.

According to the press release, UN and Islamic Emirate officials also discussed the problems of Afghan refugees at the Torkham and Spin Boldak crossings in this meeting. Arafat Jamal said that this issue has been raised with Pakistani officials and Islamabad has promised cooperation to reduce the problems of refugees.

Islamic Emirate officials emphasized in this meeting that the Special Commission for Addressing the Problems of Returned Refugees, headed by the Deputy Prime Minister, is continuously working to solve the problems and provide basic services to the refugees.
