Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The US Secretary of State, who was twice subject to Chinese sanctions while serving in the Senate, was able to accompany Donald Trump on his trip to Beijing by changing his name.
According to Al Jazeera, this presence was possible thanks to a linguistic solution and Chinese diplomatic protocol, after Beijing changed Rubio's name by changing the Chinese characters.
According to Al Jazeera correspondent Alan Fisher, "China did this by using a different trick to write Rubio's name in official documents."
According to the report, the first syllable of the US Secretary of State's surname (Rubio), which is pronounced "Lu" in Chinese, was written with a different character.
The name change to “Marco Lu” enabled Beijing to accept Rubio without lifting sanctions that could otherwise be imposed.
The Chinese government had sanctioned Rubio before he joined the Trump administration in 2020 for his comments about what it claimed was China’s crackdown on Hong Kong.
