Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): A French judge will open an investigation into the murder of "Jamal Khashoggi". Sources told AFP that a French judge will open an investigation into the murder of "Jamal Khashoggi", a Saudi journalist who was assassinated inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018. The move follows a complaint filed against Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The French prosecutor's office announced that the judge investigating crimes against humanity will examine the complaint filed by TRIAL International and Reporters Without Borders on allegations of torture and forced detention.
Jamal Khashoggi was a prominent Saudi journalist and critic who wrote for The Washington Post and criticized the Saudi government and the policies of Mohammed bin Salman. He entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018, to complete his marriage documents, but never came out. Investigations revealed that Khashoggi was tortured and murdered by a team of Saudi agents, and his body was dismembered.
The killing sparked widespread international outrage, with Mohammed bin Salman accused of indirectly being involved in, planning, or supporting the killing, although Saudi Arabia denied official responsibility.
