Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: North Korea on Thursday condemned the recent joint statement by the foreign ministers of the United States, Australia, Japan and India, which emphasized Pyongyang's "complete nuclear disarmament", and once again announced that it will never give up its nuclear weapons.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the foreign ministers of the four member countries of the US-led security group known as "Quad" had emphasized their commitment to the "complete disarmament" of North Korea in a joint statement after their meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday.
North Korea's Foreign Ministry said the Quad group had questioned the country's legitimate exercise of its sovereignty and that the group was nothing more than a political and diplomatic tool to achieve US unipolar dominance.
"We once again state clearly that the 'denuclearization' of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea will never happen," a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
North Korea also said it "firmly" condemned the US-led Quad group's hostile stance against Pyongyang and called on the group to stop its confrontational policies that undermine regional peace and stability.
Meanwhile, a South Korean Unification Ministry official said in assessing the reaction that Pyongyang has long viewed the Quad group as a model for the formation of an Asian version of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and has repeatedly criticized it.
The official also added that North Korea's reaction this year appears to be relatively weaker than last year; Last year, the North Korean Foreign Ministry issued an official and strongly worded statement in response to a similar statement by Quad.
