Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The US Naval Forces Central Command (USNAVCENT) issued an urgent maritime statement on Friday, warning ship owners, operators and mariners of what it called “dangerous military operations underway” in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the statement, the location of the operation was announced in the north of Oman’s Musandam Peninsula, located in the middle of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement dated May 29, the Joint Maritime Intelligence Center assessed the threat level in this area as “CRITICAL.”
The statement claimed that Iran was attempting to “illegally control” this strategic waterway through what it called “dangerous and illegal minelaying”; A move that, according to CENTCOM, has put ships and their crews at risk.
According to the statement, all mariners have been advised to avoid the “traffic separation scheme” in the Strait of Hormuz and instead coordinate their passage with the “US Naval Cooperation and Guidance Center for Shipping.”
Vessels have also been asked to maintain constant radio contact with US Navy authorities and to immediately implement orders issued by US forces.
In the final part of the statement, a firm warning has been issued that any vessel observed carrying out or supporting mine-laying activities will be targeted by US forces in the context of what is called “legitimate defense.”
Washington's warnings about creating tension in the Persian Gulf region have come at a time when the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) announced: Despite the United States' escalating actions in the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, this authority continues to continuously review and grant passage permits to non-hostile vessels in order to facilitate traffic.
