Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: According to the Ministry of Economy's press release, the two sides discussed and exchanged views on the status of humanitarian aid, the current needs of the people, the challenges facing returnees, and ways to strengthen support for vulnerable groups.
In this meeting, Robert Enzikwa assured the continuation of the activities and support programs of the Norwegian Refugee Council for refugees in Afghanistan.
According to him, the organization will continue its activities in the areas of legal aid, education, livelihood security, food security, emergency assistance to internally displaced persons and returnees, creating job opportunities for youth, and providing shelter to families in need.
He also stated that despite the reduction in the humanitarian aid budget this year, the organization has several programs in place to address the problems of returnees and support affected families in different provinces of the country, and is trying to draw the attention of international donor organizations to the humanitarian needs of Afghanistan.
The Minister of Economy, while appreciating the continuation of the humanitarian activities of the Norwegian Mission for Refugees, emphasized that Afghanistan, in addition to emergency assistance, needs investment in development sectors and the creation of sustainable economic opportunities more than ever.
He added that providing employment opportunities, expanding vocational training, supporting vulnerable groups, and strengthening the family economy can provide the basis for economic self-sufficiency for citizens and reduce their dependence on foreign aid.
While in recent years, many international institutions and relief organizations have allocated the bulk of their aid to emergency and humanitarian programs, Afghan officials have always emphasized that overcoming the current economic and humanitarian crises requires investment in infrastructure, development, and job-creating projects to pave the way for sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction in the country.
