Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The draft document of the conclusions of this summit, seen by Euronews, states that the European Council supports any diplomatic effort to end the war and declares its readiness to “increase its role in peace negotiations.”
According to Euronews, this is the first time that the EU summit conclusions have spoken of adopting a direct approach to the Ukraine peace process, which has so far been led by the United States and is currently at a standstill.
Zelensky is expected to hold talks with 27 EU leaders at the June summit, although it has not yet been confirmed whether he will do so in person or remotely. In a recent interview with CBS, the Ukrainian president mentioned the E3 format (consisting of Germany, France and the UK), the Nordic countries and Turkey as potential mediators. “Who will ultimately represent Europe? This is a decision that Ukraine and Europe must make. But it is also important that Russia be ready for dialogue and European presence,” he said.
It is worth noting that Russia has rejected any European role in mediation in the Ukraine issue and considers the EU to be part of the problem and a supporter of Ukraine.
