Chinese companies interested in investing in Afghanistan’s electricity industry
Two Chinese companies, Huishan and Helix, have expressed their interest in investing in the production of electrical equipment, development of technical capacities, and training of human resources in Afghanistan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Afghan Power Company (ABSC) has issued a press release stating that Mullah Abdul Haq Hammar, the company’s CEO, has discussed investment opportunities in the electricity sector, development of electrical equipment, and upgrading of technical skills of employees in separate meetings with officials of Huishan and Helix China companies.

According to the Afghan Power Company, the CEO of the company, while welcoming the presence of Chinese investors, assessed the opportunities available in the Afghan electricity sector as appropriate and emphasized that the necessary grounds and facilities have been provided for domestic and foreign investment and investors can operate in this sector with confidence.

According to the information provided, the Huishan Technical Company plans to invest in employee training, maintenance and care of power grid transformers, establishing well-equipped technical laboratories, and establishing a joint training center.

Helix Company officials also announced their interest in investing in the production of transformers and other electrical equipment, and said that establishing a factory to produce electrical cables in Afghanistan is also in the company's plans.

The press release states that in order to clarify the details and implementation of these investments, joint meetings will be held between officials of the Investment Department of the Breshna Company and technical experts from the aforementioned companies.

This comes at a time when Afghanistan has been trying to attract domestic and foreign investment in this sector in recent years to develop energy infrastructure and reduce its dependence on imported electrical equipment.

Experts believe that setting up factories producing electrical equipment and specialized training centers can help create job opportunities, transfer technical knowledge, and strengthen domestic capacities in the country's electrical industry.
