A senior official of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization announced that he is reviewing ways to resume the activities of the "Contact Group with Afghanistan" and called Afghanistan one of the important axes of the organization's security agenda and regional cooperation.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Deputy Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization announced that the member states of the organization are reviewing various options to revive the "Contact Group with Afghanistan"; a mechanism that can play an important role in coordinating the positions of the countries of the region and expanding discussions on developments in Afghanistan.

Ahmad Saeed Moradzada told Russian media on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that Afghanistan remains one of the important issues of concern to the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and this issue is likely to be reflected in the final declaration of the organization's summit.

Referring to the geographical location of Afghanistan, he emphasized that the country is located in the heart of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization region and, as an observer member, has a special position in regional interactions. According to him, the members of the organization are trying to reach an agreement on the resumption of this important mechanism; a move that can help strengthen security, political and economic cooperation at the regional level.

Moradzada also noted that after a four-year hiatus, the first official meetings of the member states on Afghanistan have been held and the process of consultations to reactivate the cooperation mechanisms is progressing.

He referred to the recent consultative meeting in Dushanbe and said that this meeting was held at the initiative of Tajikistan, and special representatives of the member states presented their views on the situation in Afghanistan, political developments and areas for practical regional cooperation.

Experts believe that the revival of the SCO Contact Group with Afghanistan can pave the way for broader interactions between Kabul and the countries of the region; An interaction that, in addition to helping to reduce security concerns, can also be effective in developing economic, trade, transit cooperation, and regional connectivity.

In recent years, Afghanistan has repeatedly emphasized the need for active participation in regional mechanisms and called for expanding cooperation with neighboring countries and regional organizations. Meanwhile, the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization have always considered Afghanistan's stability, security, and economic development as important issues related to the security and prosperity of the region.
