Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Indian representative to the UN emphasized at the UN Security Council meeting on Afghanistan that the political and field situation in Afghanistan has changed fundamentally over the past five years and that continuing policies based on pressure and sanctions are no longer responsible.
He said that the existing sanctions and restrictions should be reviewed taking into account the new conditions and with the aim of helping the people of Afghanistan, and not being used solely as punitive tools.
The Indian representative also emphasized that the international community, and especially the UN, need more effective tools that can help improve the humanitarian and economic situation in Afghanistan and strengthen the path of constructive engagement.
He also considered trade and transit restrictions against Afghanistan to be contrary to the principles of supporting landlocked countries and emphasized the need to strengthen regional cooperation.
