The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a statement that 13 civilians were killed and 10 others wounded in airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan's Khost, Kunar and Paktika provinces.
According to the statement, the majority of the victims of these attacks are children and women. UNAMA said the figures were obtained after investigating and documenting the events of the night of June 9-10.
The UN agency, while expressing concern over civilian casualties, reiterated the need to reduce tensions and prevent escalation of conflict.
UNAMA also called for a lasting ceasefire, the protection of civilians, the reopening of border crossings, especially to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the resolution of disputes through dialogue.
Recent attacks in Afghanistan's border areas have once again raised concerns about civilian security and the humanitarian consequences of regional tensions.
