Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The press office of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced that Dr. Alireza Bekdali, the Chief of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul, met with Abdul Rahman Qanet, Deputy Minister of Planning and Policy of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum of Afghanistan, and discussed and exchanged views on areas for developing cooperation between the two countries in the mining sector and exploiting Afghanistan’s mineral potential.
This comes while the head of the Iran-Afghanistan Joint Chamber of Commerce arrived in Kabul last week at the head of a delegation of representatives of the Iranian private sector.
It is said that the delegation will pursue ways to strengthen trade relations and investment opportunities between the two countries during its trip to Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif.
It is worth mentioning that Afghanistan has extensive mineral reserves including copper, iron, lithium, gold, precious stones and rare earth elements, the value of which is estimated to be in the billions of dollars.
In recent years, the current Afghan government has tried to prepare the ground for the exploitation of these resources by attracting domestic and foreign investment. The Islamic Republic of Iran, due to its proximity to Afghanistan and its technical and industrial capacities in the mining sector, is also among the countries that have expressed interest in developing mineral and economic cooperation with Afghanistan.
