Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The press office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock has issued a press release announcing that Maulvi Attaullah Omari, Minister of the Ministry, met and discussed with Stephen Rodriguez, Director and Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Afghanistan, about expanding joint cooperation in the sectors of agriculture, irrigation, livelihood development, and implementing development projects.
According to the press release of the Ministry of Agriculture, the representative of the United Nations Development Program announced the implementation of two major projects in the alternative livelihood and settlement sectors in this meeting.
He said that within the framework of the Alternative Livelihood Project, chemical fertilizers have been distributed to 2,000 farmers, greenhouses have been established, markets for agricultural products have been built, and various support programs have been implemented to strengthen the agricultural sector.
According to him, within the framework of the Abadi Program, 270 infrastructure projects, including irrigation canals, dams, and other water facilities, have been implemented in different regions of the country, which have played an effective role in improving water resource management, developing agricultural activities, mechanization, and increasing the income of rural families.
While appreciating the cooperation of the United Nations Development Program, Maulvi Ataullah Omari emphasized the effective and sustainable use of the implemented projects and said that the Ministry of Agriculture is committed to cooperating with development institutions to strengthen the agricultural sector and improve the situation of farmers and livestock keepers.
He also stated that the ministry has increased import tariffs on some products, including vegetables, fruits, and powdered milk, in order to support domestic production, increase agricultural production, and reduce dependence on imports, in order to provide a basis for the growth of domestic production and improve the economic situation of farmers and livestock farmers.
