Trump: I was surprised to see the tears of the Iranian people for the farewell of their leader

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: US President Donald Trump said that he will follow the funeral ceremony of the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution.

 

Interviewing Axios, he said: "We could have eliminated everyone, but in that case there would be no one left to negotiate."

 

He continued: "We and the Iranians agreed to suspend negotiations for a week until the end of the ceremony for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and it was agreed that neither side would attack the other during this period.

 

Continuing the interview, the US President said that he was surprised to see Iranians crying at the farewell ceremony for the leader.

 

Trump said: "I thought people hated (Ayatollah) Khamenei, maybe the tears of the Iranians were fake."

 

The funeral procession for the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution began on Saturday morning at the Imam Khomeini (RA) Mausoleum in Tehran.

 

The international news site The Cradle has predicted that at least 30 million people will participate in the six-day funeral procession for the martyred leader in Iran and Iraq.

 

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera covered the first day of the funeral procession for the martyred leader and wrote in response to the flood of mourners at the mausoleum: Tehran's Grand Musalla, where Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei delivered some of his most important speeches for years, has today become a center of national mourning.

 

The report added; The atmosphere is intensely emotional. Some mourners are in tears, while others wave Iranian flags and hold pictures of the late leader and pray.

 

Al Jazeera added: "People's emotions here have also taken on a political flavor, with cries of "Death to America and Death to Israel" echoing through the crowd. Many of the mourners present at the site are demanding revenge for the killing of Ayatollah Khamenei."
