Deadly heat and power crisis in the US; 25 dead and 840,000 households without power

NBC News announced today (Sunday) that the extreme heat from the South to the Midwest and the East Coast of the US was the cause of these deaths.

 

Dalla Avice, a spokeswoman for the New Jersey Department of Health, also announced that the number of heat-related deaths in the state has increased from 19 to 22. One heat-related death has also been recorded in the state of Illinois and two others in the state of Mississippi.

 

Meanwhile, ABC reported that temperatures in Washington, D.C., reached 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) on Independence Day, breaking a record set in more than a century.

 

According to the report, extreme heat accompanied by widespread storms has affected various parts of the United States and put a lot of strain on the country's power grid. In New York City, temperatures also reached 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, causing asphalt to melt on some streets.

 

Local media also reported that a number of cities on the East Coast of the United States have canceled or postponed Independence Day ceremonies and celebrations due to the extreme heat.

 

According to the latest statistics, at least 840,000 households in different parts of the United States faced power outages at the height of the heat wave and storms.
