Pakistani media reported the possibility of holding a new round of talks between Iran and the United States

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Pakistan's "Nation" newspaper reported today (Sunday) that the next round of talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States will probably be held in Pakistan on (July 11) and the parties are expected to discuss a series of important bilateral issues at this meeting.

 

According to this report and citing Arab media sources, the main topics of these talks will include reviewing US sanctions against Iran, releasing Tehran's frozen assets and developments related to the Islamic Republic of Iran's nuclear program.

 

Meanwhile, Al Arabiya TV has claimed that the final decision on the composition of the Iranian negotiating team and the person who will head the team will be made after the funeral of the martyred leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei (may Allah have mercy on him). According to this claim, the official composition of the Iranian team will be announced after the funeral ceremony.

 

According to reports, on Sunday, June 21, the Hotel Burgenstock on the shores of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland hosted bilateral, trilateral and quadrilateral meetings with the presence of the Iranian and American negotiating teams, as well as two mediators, Pakistan and Qatar. These meetings were held after the signing of the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” on June 28.

 

These talks ended after about 20 hours and the parties agreed to hold technical talks. Also, on June 1, technical talks between Iran and the United States were held in Switzerland with the presence of two mediators and chaired by Seyyed Kazem Gharibabadi. After the meeting, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced that the parties had reached an understanding on the arrangements for future negotiations and the implementation mechanisms of the memorandum of understanding and the final statement.

 

After about two months of talks with the mediation of Pakistan and then Qatar, Iran and the United States reached a 14-point memorandum of understanding, one of the most important of which is dedicated to the issue of ending the war, including in Lebanon.

 

If a new round of negotiations is held, this meeting could be a new test to measure Washington's adherence to its commitments; an issue that has always been associated with doubt and sensitivity, given the history of the United States withdrawing from agreements and imposing unilateral sanctions.
