Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The Speaker of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, announced, citing official government statistics, that the number of victims of the devastating earthquake on June 24 in the country has reached 3,342.
According to these statistics, as of July 5, the number of injured in the incident has increased to 16,740. More than 86,000 families have also received relief aid, but 17,345 people are still homeless.
Venezuelan authorities have also announced that despite the passage of several days since the disaster, thousands of people are still missing and there is a possibility that the number of victims will increase.
On June 24, two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, just seconds apart, shook large parts of Venezuela. The coastal region of La Guaira suffered the most damage, making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in Latin America's recent history.
Authorities have recorded 942 aftershocks since the powerful quakes.
