New UN Deputy Special Representative Meets with Herat Governor on Cooperation and Development Programs

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Herat: Bruno Limarchi, the new Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Afghanistan, met with Sheikh Islam Jar, the Governor of Herat, in the presence of the provincial head of external relations, and discussed the status of services, activities, and programs of UN agencies in Herat.

 

Limarchi stated in the meeting that based on the assessments conducted, significant achievements have been recorded in Herat in the areas of counter-narcotics, economic development, combating climate change, and managing the large wave of refugees.

 

He added that the United Nations is trying to implement its programs in coordination and cooperation with the officials of the Islamic Emirate and to provide a better basis for addressing the needs of the people in various sectors.

 

In contrast, Sheikh Islam Jarr, referring to the progress of the past five years, said that the Islamic Emirate is seriously pursuing the fight against drugs, collecting addicts, combating corruption and reducing poverty, and considered these challenges to be the consequences of the wars of the past several decades in Afghanistan.

 

The Governor of Herat also mentioned the launch of major economic projects in the country and emphasized that the Herat local administration is working to strengthen economic growth, development and address the needs of citizens.

 

At the end of the meeting, the Governor of Herat emphasized the full cooperation of the local administration with the United Nations institutions in Herat and called for continued coordination and cooperation between the two sides.
