US attack, violation of Islamabad memorandum; Iran complains to Security Council

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Following new US attacks and violation of ceasefire and Islamabad memorandum, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the UN sent a letter to Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, and President of the Security Council.

 

In this letter, the Iranian ambassador referred to the widespread US military attacks against Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, calling it a clear violation of the UN Charter and the Islamabad memorandum, and emphasized that the United States has ignored its international obligations with these actions.

 

Iravani stated that eight members of the Iranian Air Force and Navy were martyred during Wednesday's attacks on military installations in Bushehr and Bandar Abbas.

 

Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations strongly condemned these crimes, calling the targeting of military and civilian installations a serious threat to international peace and security, and emphasized the full responsibility of the United States for the consequences of its illegal actions.

 

Iravani concluded the letter by calling on the Secretary-General and the Security Council to take immediate, effective, and decisive measures to force the United States to stop its aggression and hold it accountable for its gross violations of international law.

 

Some sources have also reported Iran's military response to these attacks, and images of fierce attacks on US positions in the region have been published.

 

The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the presidents of Iran and the United States, and included clauses such as the cessation of military attacks, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a 60-day extension of the ceasefire for deeper negotiations. However, fundamental differences over the nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions remain, and this memorandum, as a framework agreement, has postponed the main issues to future negotiations.

 

According to international affairs experts, sending this letter by Iran to the Security Council is a diplomatic attempt to legally record US aggression and violate the Islamabad Memorandum.
