Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Eyewitnesses in Sanaa announced that a passenger plane landed at the city’s airport at 9 a.m. local time on Monday and left the airport about an hour later.
Some users on social media have claimed that the plane belonged to Iran’s Mahan Air, but until the publication of this news, Yemeni authorities have not released any official confirmation or comment on the identity of the plane.
This landing is the second in two weeks and has taken place in a situation where Yemen has been under a Saudi air blockade for nearly 15 years.
Previously, on July 2, an Iranian plane managed to land at Sanaa airport despite Saudi fighter jets trying to prevent it from entering. Yemeni officials and media had assessed this event as a sign of the end of the air blockade imposed by Saudi Arabia.
Following these developments, the organization known as the “Yemen Presidential Council,” which enjoys the support of the Saudi government, issued a statement condemning these flights and claimed that it would complain about the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Security Council. The council, which was formed without holding elections or a referendum, introduces itself as the legitimate government of Yemen.
Meanwhile, Yahya Saree, spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces, has announced that the air blockade of the country has ended and that more flights will be made to Sanaa airport from now on.
