EU welcomes appointment of Rabab Fatima as UN Special Representative for Afghanistan
The European Union has announced its readiness to cooperate with Rabab Fatima, the new UNAMA chief in Kabul, in the framework of international processes related to Afghanistan.
The European Union has welcomed the appointment of Rabab Fatima as the new head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan.
 
EU foreign policy spokesman Anwar al-Announi said the EU was ready to cooperate with Rabab Fatima in Kabul and the international community in the next steps of the Doha process.
 
He stressed that the European Union will continue to support the people of Afghanistan and will pursue efforts to cooperate in areas related to the situation in the country.
 
Bangladeshi diplomat Rabab Fatima will take over the responsibility of leading UNAMA and coordinating its efforts in Afghanistan after being appointed by the UN Secretary-General.
 
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has been operating since 2002 and its role includes supporting political processes, coordinating humanitarian assistance and working with various agencies to address Afghanistan's challenges.
