Local officials in Kapisa have announced the start of practical work on extracting tourmaline in the Ala-Sai district, saying that with the start of this project, employment opportunities have been provided for more than 200 people.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Practical work on extracting tourmaline in the Hassanabad area of Ala-Sai district of Kapisa province officially began in the presence of Qari Ehsanullah Barial, the governor of the province.
Inayatullah Abbal, head of Kapisa’s Mines and Petroleum, said that the tourmaline mine had previously been surveyed and evaluated by the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, and after completing the technical stages, its practical extraction process has begun.
He added that the extraction of eight sufs of the tourmaline mine in the Hassanabad area has begun, and this project has so far created job opportunities for more than 200 people.
The Governor of Kapisa also emphasized at the ceremony that the mining process of this mine will be fully implemented based on the procedures, laws, and guidelines of the Islamic Emirate for contracting companies and unions.
Referring to the characteristics of this gemstone, the Head of Mines and Petroleum of Kapisa said that tourmaline with a hardness of 7.5 and unique prismatic crystals is one of the valuable gemstones that has wide application in the jewelry industry.
He also stated that tourmaline deposits exist in Tagab, Nijrab, and Kohband districts in addition to Ala-Sai district, and the process of mining green garnet, ruby, and spinel is also continuing in different parts of Kapisa province.
