Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Ukrainian officials announced that Russia launched one of its largest ballistic missile attacks on the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, this morning (Sunday).
According to the country's officials, the attack lasted nearly five hours and at least one person was killed and seven others were injured. Several residential, office and municipal buildings in different areas of Kiev also caught fire and suffered extensive damage.
According to Ukrainian officials, about 40 "Iskander" ballistic missiles and "Zircon" hypersonic missiles were fired at the capital.
Kiev residents woke up at around 1:30 a.m. to the sound of air raid sirens, and minutes later, the sounds of air defense systems and explosions could be heard in different parts of the city.
Reuters reported that a second wave of air raid warnings sounded in Kiev at around 6:30 a.m., and reports of missiles hitting other parts of the city were also released.
During the attacks, a three-story building in the central Shevchenkivskyi district caught fire, and rescue workers pulled several people from the building. The body of one victim was also pulled from the rubble.
Ukrainian authorities said that four other districts of Kiev were also hit by the attacks, and fires were reported in residential and office buildings and a student dormitory.
The Kiev military administration confirmed the casualties in the attacks and said that, based on initial information, at least one person had died. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko also reported that seven people were injured in the attacks.
