Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The Deputy Prime Minister’s Office for Economic Affairs announced the unprecedented boom in the carpet weaving industry in its latest report on the status of handicrafts.
According to the report, about one million people are currently working in the carpet weaving sector, which indicates the vital role of this industry in job creation and the national economy.
The statistics provided show that this year, 760,000 square meters of high-quality carpets have been exported to various countries. The total value of these exports reaches $14 million, which includes diverse markets including European, Arab, African countries, Turkey, the United States, Canada, Australia, and Russia.
This volume of exports and diversity in destination markets indicate the strategic position and competitive strength of Afghan carpet products globally.
The expansion of this industry not only helps strengthen the country's foreign exchange reserves, but also has proven the ability of domestic artists and carpet weavers to satisfy international customers.
