Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi on the telephone yesterday evening (Friday), regarding regional and international developments and bilateral relations.
This was the first telephone conversation between Araqchi and Miliband.
The Iranian Foreign Minister considered the British inappropriate approach towards Iran, including the country’s recent resolution labeling the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the British complicity in the two wars imposed by the US and the Zionist regime against Iran, unjustified and condemned, and stressed the need for the British government to reconsider this matter.
Recalling the US and Zionist military aggression against Iran as the main factor in the current situation in the region, Araghchi stated: The Islamic Republic of Iran entered the diplomatic process in good faith and reached an understanding to end the war on 18th of June, but the US again violated its promise and prevented its implementation.
Recently, the new British Prime Minister Andy Burnham confirmed the use of the country’s military bases by the US for what the country calls “defensive attacks” against Iran.
The Iranian Foreign Minister emphasized Iran’s determination to regulate operational mechanisms in cooperation with Oman to manage shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, and said: “Sabotage by third parties in this process will only complicate the current situation.”
Araqchi also called any cooperation with aggressors, including under the pretext of previous defense contracts, unacceptable and noted: According to international law and the resolution defining aggression, allowing aggressors to use the territory and facilities of one country to illegally attack another country constitutes an act of aggression and allows the attacked country to resort to legitimate defense.
We are not part of the war with Iran
The British Foreign Secretary, explaining the approach of the new government of this country, also stated: We are not part of the war with Iran and we believe in diplomacy to resolve issues.
He emphasized the need to continue diplomatic interactions with Iran to improve relations and reduce tension in the region.
Azaqchi also spoke by phone with the foreign ministers of Bulgaria, Cyprus, and India on Thursday and Friday.
