Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to Russian authorities, the explosion occurred at around 8:00 pm local time on Saturday night in Kudrinskaya Square, near the center of Moscow.
Russia's National Counter-Terrorism Committee said that a woman carrying explosives tried to enter the restaurant, but was stopped by a security guard. The woman, the security guard and a customer of the restaurant died in the explosion, and 21 others were injured.
The restaurant, located in one of Moscow's famous skyscrapers, was hosting a private party when the explosion occurred. Russian authorities have not yet announced the identities of the guests at the party or the possible target of the attack.
Initial reports indicated that the explosion occurred in the restaurant's kitchen, but the restaurant's management issued a statement saying that the incident occurred outside the restaurant building and was not related to the kitchen.
In recent years, since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, a number of Russian military and intelligence officials have been targeted by attacks and assassinations.
Russian officials have previously blamed Ukraine for these attacks, but have not yet officially commented on the cause or causes of the explosion.
