The Washington Post referred to Trump's July 22 threat, in which he promised to target a bridge or power plant for every ship attacked by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz; however, despite attacking at least three ships after this threat, the US did not carry out the promised military response.
The publication writes that Iran also does not trust Trump to reach an agreement, because he has changed his position many times after coming close to an agreement.
Analysts believe that this contradictory approach has both reduced the deterrent power of Trump's threats and weakened the possibility of successful negotiations. The analysis also states that the continuation of the war has had heavy costs for the United States, and according to a CNN poll, only 28 percent of Americans are satisfied with Trump's management of the Iran war.
The Washington Post finally emphasized that the continuation of the current policy, i.e., the back and forth between war and peace, will have no result other than turning the Iran war into an "endless war."
