Khalil al-Hayya, who was elected head of the Hamas political bureau on July 20, 2026 (July 29), took over the leadership of the movement after the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar.
Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem also emphasized that the Hamas delegation's meetings with Egyptian officials are being held within the framework of the movement's continued diplomatic contacts and efforts with the mediators, saying that the purpose of these meetings is to inform the Egyptian authorities of the occupation regime's continued violations and to force the regime to adhere to the roadmap agreed upon with the "Peace Council." He emphasized that by increasing its consultations with the mediators, the Hamas movement seeks to ensure the full implementation of the provisions of the ceasefire agreement and prevent the Zionist regime from sabotaging the various stages of the implementation of this agreement.
