Former US official: Trump led America on a path to defeat by not knowing Iran

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Joe Kent, former head of the US National Counterterrorism Center and a critic of the US war with Iran, severely criticized Laura Loomer, a political activist close to Trump, in a message on the social network X, accusing her of fueling tensions and trying to distract public opinion from the situation in the war.

 

Kent wrote in this message that the Iran war is failing due to "a lack of basic understanding of the country we are at war with and the Middle East in general," and the positions of people like Loomer indicate an inability to correctly assess the threat environment in the region.

 

Pointing to the consequences of these policies, he warned that Washington’s current approach not only diverted America’s attention from the still serious threats posed by ISIS and al-Qaeda, but also increased the likelihood that the United States would face “return terrorism” on its soil.

 

Kent, who lost his wife in an ISIS suicide attack, emphasized his point by noting that at the time of his wife’s death, Shiite militias backed by Iran and the government of Bashar al-Assad were fighting ISIS.

 

The former Trump administration official then compared Trump’s performance during his first term with the current policy, saying that after the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, Trump settled for a limited military response and avoided going to full-scale war with Iran; a decision that Kent said was based on awareness of the catastrophic consequences of such a war.

 

Kent further claimed that Trump has listened to the views of people like LeMar and the Israel lobby during this period, instead of relying on people who have real knowledge of the region, and the result has been the current state of the war and the collapse of public support for it.
