Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to Al Jazeera, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry announced today (Thursday) that General Asim Munir, the country's army chief, has not conveyed any new messages from US President Donald Trump to Iran in recent days, and his recent visit to Tehran was within the framework of Islamabad's continuous efforts to prevent the resumption of war and resolve this crisis.
Tahir Andrabi, spokesman for the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, said in a press conference about the published reports that General Munir conveyed a message to Iranian officials during his recent visit: "These claims are false and the Pakistani army chief's visit was within the framework of Islamabad's role in mediation."
He added that the talks were part of ongoing efforts to help end the conflict and resume efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and focused on ending the current stalemate and resuming efforts to restore regional peace and stability.
Andarabi stressed that Islamabad, in cooperation with friendly countries, will continue to mediate between the United States and Iran and support all efforts to achieve peace and a just solution to the dispute.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman also announced that trade between Pakistan and Iran continues and Islamabad is not required to implement unilateral sanctions against Tehran.
